Configure Custom Namespaces
- Custom namespaces are usefull if you have different subjects on your wiki or you have different project groups who make use of the wiki.
- An alternative to using custom namespaces is installing several instances of MediaWiki.
- The advantage of using custom namespaces is that you can use the same article name again in different namespaces (eg on this wiki I have 2 articles named Overview: Media_Wiki:Overview and IpbWiki:Overview
- A drawback of using custom namespaces is that you have to prefix the article name with the namespace name to be able to access the article, eg to link to the article Overview in the IpbWiki namespace you have to use [[IpbWiki:Overview]]
- An advantage/disadvantage of custom namespaces is that you can easily rename namespaces and all articles within the namespace will also be renamed to the new namespace. (the disadvantage being here is that you can no longer access the article via the previous namespace name)
- Be sure to use an _ instead of spaces in your custom namespace names
