Steps

Step 1: Install Invision Power Board

Step 1: Install Invision Power Board

(if you already have an installation of Invision Power Board then skip this step)

Upload Invision Power Board to your wehost and start the Invision Power Board Installer (the installer is located in the subdirectory install) via http://www.yoursite.com/forum/install/ . This tutorial covers installation of Invision Power Board 2.2, however installation of other versions is similar.

After starting the installer you are presented with a welcome screen, this screen shows the Invision Power Board requirements, click on Next.

Here you are presented with the license agreement, after reading the agreement tick the I agree checkbox and click next.

In the addresses dialog box you provide details where you wish to install your Invision Power Board. On a unix based system the install directory typically looks like /home/public_html/forum/ while on a windows system you have to provide something ala c:/webroot/forum/ (use also forward slashes on windows!). The install address is the link people will use to visit your forum, so it will look something like http://www.ipbwiki.com/forums/

In the next screen we have to provide our database details. Sql Host is the address of where your sql server is located (this is nearly always localhost). Provide also the database in which you wish to install your Invision Power Board. The default table prefix for Invision Power Board is ibf_ and unless you want to install multiple IPB instances in the same database it's best to leave it on this default.

The admin account will allow you to access your Invision Power Board admin cp panel. Be sure to choose a password that is secure (use adequate length, use a combination of numbers, symbols, capitals and regular letters)
