Meta Tags
Several meta tags are defined in this section, filling them with the right content allow search engines to better index your pages (and thus bring more visitors to your site)
- title: This tag would normally have the same title as contained in the tag.
- description: A short, plain language description of the document, usually 20-25 words or less. Search engines that support this tag will use the information to publish on their search results page, normally below the Title of your site. This tag is particularly important if your document has very little text, is a frameset, or has extensive scripts at the top.
- rating: Simple content rating, value needs to be one of the following values: Safe For Kids, 14 Years, General, Mature or Restricted
- robots: Controls search engine robots on a per-page basis. (ALL=INDEX,FOLLOW and NONE=NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW)
- abstract: Used primarily with academic papers. Basically, this tag is for a summary of the description. Normally, the content will be 10 words or less.
- classification: Many search engines use this tag to determine how to classify your web page. For example, a classification of 'Internet' would place your site in a category of 'Internet'.
- copyright: Typically an unqualified copyright statement. You can include copyright, trademarks, patents, or other information here pertaining to your intellectual property.
- content-language: This tag specifies the language used on the website.
- msnbot: This tag will allow for your actual description to be used in the MSN Search results as opposed to the description used in DMOZ (Open Directory). If you are unhappy with the description from DMOZ (which most webmasters are) then use this tag.
